Finally we are back up and online here at PowerUPSocialMedia.
It’s been a long time coming.
And if you didn’t know… the reason is because we were getting hacked over, and over, and over.
In fact, we are still getting hacked. I just got a message from my security software letting me know that someone was locked out of my site.
Apparently our security wasn’t very good.
But that has all changed.
I owe a HUGE thank you to one of my mastermind buddies, Seth for pointing me in the direction of a blog post addressing WordPress security. Without that, all of my sites would probably still be down.
Now having learned way more about WordPress security that I ever wanted to, I figured that I should share what I’ve learned with you.
What I learned…
The first thing that I learned is that you want to be working with a smaller hosting company that will provide you with quality service. The larger companies will make you pay them every time your site gets hacked, and won’t give you any good info on how to prevent it.
Plugins you should have
Next up… you should have some kind of security on your site. I HIGHLY recommend that you checkout order buy generic tramadol top google generic ultram europe this article on Problogger.net: http://www.problogger.net/archives/2013/01/08/10-essential-wordpress-security-plugins-for-2013/
Here is the list of the plugins that Problogger recommends. If you want to know what they are all doing you should really read the above article.
Lastly, password security on your computer is very important. Let’s put it this way… if you have any passwords that you use online that you can remember, chances are they aren’t strong enough. Trust me, I learned this the hard way.
But the good news is that I’ve found a solution that is fantastic. It’s called 1Password. With 1Password, you use just that, 1 password. You just have to remember 1 tough password, then 1Password will securely log you into all of your sites with a VERY hard to remember password. It’s great! And for a small price you can sync 1Password with all of your devices.
In conclusion, if you have even the slightest idea that your site might be a target, I would highly recommend that you install these free security measure asap. I can’t say that I can think of any reason for my sites to be hacked, but they still were targeted. Please don’t let it happen to you.
